Book review: Hilarious History Volume 1

Hilarious History Volume 1 is a run through of British history from 55BC to 1327 and breaks it down into different sections. The difference between this and other books is that it tells the history through verse. However, this proves to be a major drawback, as rhymes often feel contrived and are repetitive (there are a number of battles in Wales that took place in gales, for example), with the emphasis at times seeming to be on the rhyme as opposed to the history. It is an interesting idea, but I found it difficult to enjoy. With a title of Hilarious History, I was hoping for something similar to the Horrible History books (entertaining and easy to read), but was sadly disappointed, with it being neither entertaining or easy to read (at times) in my opinion.
