Metodi Spasov comes to me again, this time requesting to be taken off of the transfer list, declaring himself to now be happy at the club. I’m happy to remove him from the transfer list because he’s a very promising young goalkeeper. Speaking of promising young goalkeepers, I sign Danish keeper Per Fischer from Frem on a free transfer (try saying that quick!), where he’d been on an amateur contract.
He certainly fits my profile of being young, cheap and very promising, although is perhaps a tad more eccentric than I’d like for a keeper. Fischer himself declares the move as a dream come true. Cristian Burgos of Deportivo is unhappy there and also looking for a dream come true move to Exeter if the media are to be believed; as he went to them, I’m inclined to believe them. Norweigian left-back/wing-back Johnny Solem joins on a four week trial. January transfer window business continues apace, with Bournemouth offering to extend Muamer Tankovic’s loan until the end of the season, which both myself and him agree to. Hereford offer to loan Magnus Olesen for three months and I accept their offer and he decides to go there. David Goikoetxea rejects the loan offers from Pena Sport and Huracan Valencia, which encourages Badajoz to make a loan offer for him that I accept. Southampton offer £625,000 and 25% of the profit from the next sale for Daniel Berger, which I reject. WKE offer £16,000 up front, £30,000 over 12 months and 25% of the profit from the next sale of Kyle Ebecilio, which I accept, but he rejects the move. The media report that Burnley are interested in Dacian Varga and Norwich are interested in Sean Morrison.
It’s not only my players that there is interest in and I make further signings. Greek attacking midfielder/striker Miltos Makris joins on a free transfer, prompting Michel to declare himself delighted to the media. Looking at his stats, it’s easy to see why:
Makris is joined by centre-back George King, who I sign from Sheffield United for £8,000:
Jan Pavlov signs a contract extension to 2020, which he’d asked for following recent interest as I take Danish centre back Erik Stage on a 4 week trial, Danish centre back Alexander Lindegaard for a 2 week trial and Danish defensive midfielder Simon Hede on a 2 week trial; I sign all three of them, with the plan being for Lindegaard and Hede to sell them on and make some money as I can’t see them making the grade for us:
They are joined by their compatriot Chris Hjort (a centre back), who I sign on a free transfer from Vejle Kolding on a free transfer where he had been out of contract.
A couple of Austrians also join the club; striker Philipp Langer and attacking midfielder/striker Marcel Gros, both of whom I sign from Grazer AK and I pay compensation of £3,500 for each. Gros describes the move a dream come true, whilst Langer declares it was a move too good to turn down, which the Grazer AK fans understand. I’m particularly excited by the potential of Langer and £7,000 for the pair seems an absolute steal:
Slovakian attacking midfielder and Frantisek Kubik joins on a week’s trial along with Italian right-back Nicola Astolfi, who joins for a 3 week trial. Unfortunately, Rhoys Wiggins breaks an ankle in training after a strong tackle from Mikkel Valentin (who interestingly enough can fill in at left back, which is where Wiggins plays…) and will be out for approximately three months.
