Book review: Event Driven

Event Driven is a thriller in the Rupert Hood series by Andrew Cartmel. British intelligence discover a plot by an anarchist group led by the relatively unknown Lord Muck to explode a dirty bomb in the City of London. Hood goes undercover in the City, working for a hedge fund company and also travels to where the group are based. The race is on to prevent what would be a devastating attack, but Hood soon begins to wonder if everything is as it seems…

Event Driven is a short novel and as a result, the plot moves on at a brisk pace throughout. The plot for the novel is neatly summarised in the opening chapter when Hood is informed of the plot and events unfold from there as he investigates further whilst undercover. There is some action when security forces storm where the group had been, but the book is not reliant on action. Hood uncovers the plot and what is happening, which is a neat twist for the end.
