Simulating Russia 2018 – The Last 16

Having simulated the draw for the 2018 World Cup and predicted who would qualify from each group, I look at predicting who would progress from the Last 16.

Spain V Colombia

Colombia will give it a good go, but Spain’s possession will see them progress to the quarter final.

Germany V Croatia

A tough test for the defending champions, but they will have enough to see off a Croatian team who push them but ultimately fall short.

Belgium V Mexico

A close game that Belgium will ultimately win via penalties.

Uruguay V Iceland

A good performance from Iceland to qualify from their group, but Uruguay will be too strong and progress to the quarter final.

Poland V Russia

Despite strong home support, Russia will bow out of the tournament to Poland.

Brazil V Denmark

Eriksen is able to pose problems for the Brazilian defence, but it will take more than one player to stop Brazil as they progress.

France V England

A strong defensive performance from England, but the never-ending French pressure pays off and they progress.

Argentina V Portugal

It’s billed as Messi V Ronaldo. Messi ultimately wins out in extra time.

Leave a comment and let me know who you think would progress from these ties.

Next time, I will look at the quarter finals.
